Augsburg College
Si Melby Hall - Athletic Facility Expansion
Minneapolis, MN

Sports and fitness play a large role in campus life at Augsburg, contributing to the strong sense of community and camaraderie enjoyed by Augsburg students, faculty and staff. The increased popularity of fitness activities, the growth in the number of women’s sports offerings, and the heightened demand for the College’s facilities by the community over the past four decades required the College to expand its athletic facilities. In 2003, AKA prepared a feasibility study for Augsburg College that explored an addition to and renovation of Si Melby Hall.

This study led to the design and development of a 36,000 square foot, 3-story health/physical education and athletic facility addition. The addition includes lower level team rooms and fitness facility; a main level wrestling room, offices and conference space; and upper level classrooms and faculty offices. The project also includes a new exterior bleacher system seating 1,500 and a press box for the athletic field.

The addition provides a wonderful compliment to Si Melby Hall and to the campus while addressing the critical and immediate need for space and providing greater opportunities for academic, physical and personal growth for all.
