Chaska Community Center
Chaska, MN

Awarded the title of "Facility of the Year" by Athletic Business Magazine, this facility realized an approximate $200,000 operating surplus after its first year of operation. This remarkable success was achieved through a design process fueled by City Council commitment, public involvement and an inspiring vision.

After completion of the original building in 1991, the Center has worked with AKA to further their vision and make significant changes to the facility. In 1998, a second practice ice-sheet and large-scale arts addition were completed, followed-by a physical therapy clinic and sports conditioning addition in 1999. The center now boasts a 240-seat performance theater with rehearsal space, fine arts gallery, café, two ice-sheets, and children’s day care area, along with a 12,000 square foot leisure pool with waterslide and zero depth entry, gymnasiums, racquetball courts, exercise space, and multipurpose community.

In 2005, Chaska Community Center completed a tremendous remodeling project with AKA. Once an area of limited use, the former gymnasium wing now boasts a comprehensive fitness and wellness center with the latest personal fitness equipment, a wellness studio, locker rooms, a children’s climbing wall, and a second gym designed specifically with pre-school age children in mind.

The architectural hallmark of this remodel is a dramatic 32’ glass wall, which was built to divide the former gymnasium into two spaces. The renovation also created a lofted space 12' above the existing gym floor; this lofted space holds the new gym, while the wellness studio and cardio-fitness areas are tucked underneath. The fitness/wellness remodel substantially increased the Center’s recreational value for the community. In fact, the popularity of the cardio-fitness area is so high that they’ve had to increase their hours of operation to keep-up with community demand.

In June 2006, AKA completed an outdoor aquatics addition. The addition includes: a splash deck with spray features and a child-friendly leisure pool with a kiddy slide and foam climb equipment.
