Sabes Jewish Community Center
Saint Louis Park, MN
This project for the Minneapolis Jewish Federation involved
renovating and expanding the existing campus facilities to
provide new facilities for the Sabes Jewish Community Center
(SJCC), Talmud Torah School, the Minneapolis
Jewish Day School and the Jewish Historical Society.
The JCC Campus Renovation includes several programs and service
areas, from worship to classroom to art gallery. The AKA team
worked with staff and community members to create a more cohesive
and welcoming feeling throughout the facility.
Originally
constructed 1969, the SJCC’s building needed to reflect new
community growth and become more up-to-date. Extensive demolition
and remodeling of the JCC’s original two-story building accommodated
a three-story academic addition to the north and a two-story
fitness addition to the east, expanding the existing facility
by 62,400 square feet. The existing 64,000 square foot interior
underwent a $2 million remodel that included new finishes
throughout the building and major work addressing stairs and
elevators. Site improvements included resurfacing and expanding
the parking; storm water management; new sidewalks, plantings,
retaining walls and privacy buffers.
