Monticello City Hall, Community Center and National Guard Training Facilities
Monticello, MN
The Monticello
project began with a feasibility study to help define the
community’s interests and needs. AKA learned that the community
wanted to connect its older downtown with their new commercial
area and provide a new home for civic and public recreation
activities. What emerged is the Monticello City Hall, Community
Center, and National Guard Training Facilities. Organized along a central corridor that serves as
an internal “main street,” the building provides spaces for
community gathering, individual wellness, family recreation,
and city business.
The building
consists of three primary areas: the community center facilities,
the National Guard facilities and city hall facilities. The
community center facilities include
components such as an aquatic center, gymnasium, fitness area,
wheel and a climbing wall. The National Guard facilities include
offices, a kitchen, and outdoor vehicle storage. The city
hall facilities include council chambers, city offices and
meetings rooms. While each area has distinct and separate
functions, the building occupants also take advantage of their
relationship to share facilities and offer increased programming
opportunities.
