Monticello City Hall, Community Center and National Guard Training Facilities
Monticello, MN
Monticello is a small midwestern town that had rapidly become a bedroom community with the Twin Cities Metropolitan area. Aware of this change, the City evaluated its future development and chose to create a link between what had been the traditional downtown and the now expanded commercial area adjacent to the freeway. The Monticello
project began with a feasibility study, which progressed to the design and construction of the Monticello City Hall, Community
Center, and National Guard Training Facilities. The project strengthens the vitality of City's shifting identity and includes amenities that respond to Monticello's growing community.
The building
consists of three primary areas: the community center facilities,
the National Guard facilities and city hall facilities. The focus of the design for the Monticello City Hall was to increase efficiencies and provide a welcoming environment. The city
hall facilities include council chambers, city offices and
meetings rooms. While each area has distinct and separate
functions, the building occupants also take advantage of their
relationship to share facilities--for example, the city hall's meeting rooms function as banquet facilities for the community center.
