Nisswa City Hall and Police Facility
Nisswa, MN AKA
has a long-standing relationship with the City of Nisswa,
a small community in the Brainerd-Lakes area of Minnesota.
In 1991, AKA assisted the Nisswa Lions Club in the design
of a community center that provides community rooms, a kitchen,
and meeting rooms to the area. With town growth, AKA returned to develop a preliminary design for an expanded community
center in 1999. This past August, AKA completed a 10,000 square
foot city hall and police facility.
This
latest project creates a central civic facility. The city
hall is arranged around a center circulation spine with entry
to the building located at one end and the city council chamber
at the other. The city offices and the police station are
arranged on either side of the central space. This design promotes accessibility and efficiency for
both those seeking city services and for city staff.
The use
of timber frame details and sustainable materials defines
the architectural style for the new City Hall and Police Station
which is in keeping with the rustic timber frame and sidewalk
canopies construction predominant throughout Nisswa.
