University Center Rochester

Regional Recreation and Sports Center
Rochester, MN

Developed in collaboration with the faculty and staff of UCR and the City of Rochester Parks and Recreation Department, the Center meets the academic and athletic space needs of both the college and the Rochester community. It’s prominently located between UCR’s academic and recreational zones and is designed to accommodate multiple sporting events simultaneously. The building includes a field house with a 200 meter NCAA track and field courts for basketball, volleyball, tennis and badminton; a gymnasium with bleacher seating for 1,400 spectators; multi-use athletic spaces for wrestling, fitness, aerobics and dance; and other spaces such as offices, classrooms, and varsity and public locker rooms.

The building is organized around an axial, creating an abundant central atrium space that serves as a pre-function and student gathering place.

The Center is the first completed element of the UCR Campus Master Plan originated by AKA and the Stubbins Associates.
